Buy a quarter or half cow from a Texas ranch

Stock your freezer with beef from a Texas ranch you can name. We gathered 34 farms and ranches that sell quarter, half and whole beef shares, from the Panhandle to the Rio Grande Valley and the Piney Woods, and put each one's posted price, price basis, deposit and processor in one place, wherever the farm lists them. Compare them side by side, then order straight from the ranch.

Farm details checked on each farm's own site on Oct 28, 2026.

Price badges show the lowest posted number on the farm's site: "From $" is a package price, "/lb" is per pound on the stated basis. "Unknown" means the farm's site doesn't say. We never guess.

"Shares open" means the farm's own website said, on the date checked, that shares, slots or reservations are available. "Sold out" means the site said current shares are sold out. We don't guess a status the farm hasn't posted.

How much does a beef share cost per pound in Texas?

Twenty Texas farms post a price per lb hanging weight. Using each farm's lowest posted rate, they run from $5.00 per lb hanging weight (Muenster Grass Fed) to $10.05 per lb hanging weight (Bastrop Cattle Co.), and the median is $7.00 per lb hanging weight. Nine farms charge a flat price per share instead, and one charges per lb freezer weight (the packaged beef you take home). Hanging-weight and take-home-weight prices aren't directly comparable. Hanging-weight prices are charged on the carcass weight before cutting, so you take home less than that weight. Ask the farm what's included. On processing, 2 farms say it's paid separately, 17 say it's included, and the rest don't say.

Is beef in Texas state- or USDA-inspected?

Texas runs its own state meat inspection program through the Meat Safety Assurance Section of the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), alongside USDA inspection. Beef from a state-inspected plant can generally be sold only within Texas. If you live outside Texas, ask the farm whether its beef is USDA-inspected before you buy.
